The syncytiotrophoblast (ST) cells and extravillous trophoblast (EVT) cells that make up the placenta are derived from the cellular trophoblast (CT) cells, which include trophoblast stem (TS) cells. Attempts have been made to create TS or CT cell lines in humans, but this has not been achieved. The present invention relates to undifferentiated cells (CS cells) that can differentiate into ST cells and EVT cells, obtained from isolated human CT cells.
